Advanced First Aid

HLTAID014

Provide Advanced First Aid

(includes CPR)    Nationally recognised

Suitable to those wishing to acquire first aid skills and knowledge including CPR, first aid, specialised first aid equipment, and including management of first aid incidents and other first aiders. It also applies to all persons who may be required to provide an advanced first aid response in a
range of situations, including community and workplace settings.


The course can be contextualised to cater for specific industry needs.

Course content includes:

CPR (HLTAID009), Provide First Aid (HLTAID011), in addition:

  • assessing vital signs respirations, pulse, temperature
  • coordinate a team of people to respond to a multiple casualty incident
  • life threatening bleeding - use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
  • abdominal injuries
  • childbirth
  • crush injuries
  • ear injuries and bleeding from the ear
  • substance misuse, including prescription and illicit drugs and alcohol
first aid kit in a remote area

Remote First Aid

HLTAID013

Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site

(includes CPR)    Nationally recognised

For those planning trips to remote areas for work or otherwise, to obtain the skills to deal with first aid incidents when in remote locations with specialised equipment or improvised
equipment techniques.

Targeted to scout leaders, those who live and work in remote and/or isolated areas,
outdoor/adventure instructors, bushwalkers, climbers etc.

 

The course can be contextualised to cater for specific industry needs.

Course content includes:

CPR (HLTAID009), Provide First Aid (HLTAID011), in addition:

  • life threatening bleeding - use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
  • assessment, interpretation and documentation of vital signs
  • ongoing care requirements of casualty beyond initial treatment
  • the nature of remote or isolated sites and how this may impact on first aid management
  • key features, functions and limitations of different types of emergency communication equipment used in remote or isolated sites
  • management options relating to transporting casualty
  • specific considerations contextualised to remote settings
  • methods used to assist emergency services to locate incident sites
  • use of man-made and natural resources to supplement first aid equipment
  • content of remote area first aid kits and medication boxes

Upon completion of these courses, the following unit(s) will be issued by ABC Licence Training Pty LTD – RTO 3399

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID014 – Provide advanced First Aid / HLTAID013 – Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site

Pre-requisites​

There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course. Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.

Entry requirements​

Learners undertaking the express course must have previously completed the HLTAID011/HLTAID012 – Provide first aid.

Learners will be required to provide a copy of their expiring Statement of Attainment on the day of their face-to-face course.

Training requirements​

Face to face training consists of theory presentations and range of practical learning activities and scenarios.

Assessment requirements​

Assessment activities will include a knowledge test and practical assessments including CPR and First Aid techniques. Students will also complete scenarios in a simulated environment.

Course renewal requirements​

The statement of attainment is valid for 3 years*.

*Please note that the CPR component of the training is valid for 12 months and should be updated annually.

HLTAID014 Supersedes and not equivalent to HLTAID006 Provide advanced first aid.

HLTAID013 Supersedes and not equivalent to HLTAID005 Provide first aid in remote situations.
