Advanced Resuscitation & Oxygen

HLTAID015

Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

(includes CPR)   Nationally recognised certificate

 

This unit applies to persons who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation or oxygen therapy in a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

This unit includes the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation and oxygen therapy in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
The course can be contextualised to cater for specific industry needs.

Course content includes:

CPR (HLTAID009), in addition:

  • life threatening bleeding,
  • managing the unconscious breathing and non-breathing casualty and provision of CPR and oxygen therapy
  • potential incident hazards and risk minimisation processes when providing first aid, including Oxygen Therapy and Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
  • safe work practices to deal with oxygen cylinders and associated equipment
  • assessment and interpretation of vital signs including normal clinical values for respirations, pulse, oxygen saturation
  • level of consciousness
  • how to use a suction device
  • considerations when providing oxygen to a casualty
  • methods for cleaning, replenishing, recharging and maintaining resuscitation and oxygen equipment
  • selecting and inserting an appropriate basic airway adjunct
  • use of bag-valve-mask 

Upon completion of this course, the following unit(s) will be issued by ABC Licence Training Pty LTD – RTO 3399

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
Pre-requisites​

The prerequisite unit required for entry into this course is HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid. Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.

Training requirements​

Face to face training consists of theory presentations and range of practical learning activities and scenarios.

Assessment requirements​

Assessment activities will include a knowledge test and practical assessments including use of oxygen equipment and CPR techniques. Students will also complete scenarios in a simulated environment.

Course renewal requirements​

The statement of attainment is valid for 1 year*.

*Please note that the CPR component of the training is valid for 12 months and should be updated annually.

HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy supersedes and is not equivalent to HLTAID007 Provide advanced resuscitation.

Manage first aid services and resources

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in the workplace.
The unit applies to workers in nominated occupational first aid or management roles.

Course content includes:

  • Determine workplace first aid requirements
  • Establish and maintain workplace first aid facilities.
  • Maintain workplace first aid records
  • Review the provision of first aid in the workplace.
  • conduct a workplace risk assessment and evaluation of first aid provisions
  • develop a first aid action plan including strategies for management of incidents and individuals needs in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
  • use a first aid checklist to service a workplace first aid kit for supplies’ replacement and equipment maintenance
  • maintain first aid equipment and resources according to manufacturers’ instructions
  • use and maintain documentation required by the workplace and regulatory authorities

There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course. Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.
